With the development of the internet of things(IoT), smart home products become widely applied in more and more families. Smart home, based on the data generated by the smart home sensors, becoming more and more intelligent and efficient.

Data shows that the smart home market continues to grow at a compound annual rate of 14.9% over the next few years. These include smart home hubs, the must-have “brain”, as well as smart light bulbs, smart motion sensors, homekit door sensors, temperature sensors, smart sockets, and other home automation sensors.

In smart home, various types of sensors link up together and uplink data to the smart home hub. Based on the data, the home system can analyze homeowners’ daily living habits, and increase the way homeowners interact with the surrounding world.

What are smart home sensors?

Smart home sensors are key components in smart home solutions. The smart home system cannot operate without the home automation sensors. The sensors can sense and detect some information about the measured object. What’s more, smart home sensors have the capability of generating and processing data. And they need to make communication with the home hub to deliver the data for applications.

Zigbee and Z-Wave are wireless protocols that essentially focus on connectivity within the smart home. Most sensors in home automation solutions are ZigBee sensors.

There is such a huge number of home sensors, that it is difficult to know how to take a good choice. Here are several sensors you may take a try for building your smart home.

1) Home Motion Sensor

The home motion sensor is a widely used smart home sensor in home automation. Just think of how you leave your home without turning off the lights, if you have the motion sensor installed, it will do the job to replace you. Also, the lights will fire up immediately whenever the motion sensor perceives you entering a room.

Motion sensors also play roles in detecting if someone has broken into the room. You can receive alerts from anywhere and take action as soon as possible.

2) Door/Window Sensor

The door/window sensor is another “virtual” eye of your home. They detect when a door or window is opened or closed, providing you with a trigger for automating your home. Also, you can monitor the status of the door/window sensor from your mobile phone.

The smart door and window sensor can integrate with Homkit so that you can awaken the sensor through Apple Siri. The Homekit door sensor will be the trend of the door/window sensor.

3) Smart Home Temperature Sensor

There are two broad uses of temperature sensors—inside the home and outside the home. In smart home solution, which we talked about is the inside one. Temperature sensors inside the home can help you control your temperature, and they’re also a way to keep secure in your home if there occurs a fire in your house.

What’s more, the home temperature sensor can work with thermostats to keep a comfortable room temperature.
