How to Place a Helium Hotspot in House

Table of Contents

Participants on the Helium Network earn HNT by mining and expanding coverage for The People’s Network with compatible Hotspots. Hotspot miners can make HNT in two ways: Proof of Coverage and Relay Device Information Proof-of-Coverage tests are assigned to network hotspots randomly and automatically. HNT is earned by passing and witnessing tests.

On the Helium website, you can learn more about the mechanics of PoC. Furthermore, Hotspots earn HNT for transferring device data across the network. The more device data ta Hotspot transfers, the more money it makes. And you can find more information available on the Helium website.

The rewards earned are directly proportional to hotspot visibility and network participation. External factors include the number of hotspots nearby and the density of hotspots. Both of these can have an impact on your rewards. So, choose a suitable location for your Helium miner. It is critical to achieving higher yields. There are many things to consider when you are placing helium miners.

What you should do

1.Try to place hotspots high up and ignore open areas. If your home or apartment complex has multiple floors, put the hotspot on the top floor with the most windows.

2.It is preferable to mount the hotspot high up, where there will be a clear line of sight.

3.Clear the trees around the antenna as much as possible to ensure a good signal. We have mentioned how to choose and place the angle of the antenna in the previous article. For more information, please visit

4.In some cases, a window mounting kit or a wall installation kit is available. Users can reduce the lost signal by using suction cups to mount the antenna directly on the outside of the window.

What is not recommended

1. Walls and windows can decrease or block your signal. Avoid putting the Hotspot in locations where signal strength can be heavily degraded; Such locations include but are not limited: to basements, cabinets, behind TVs, metal screens, or ‘cyber glass.’Long cable length can severely affect antenna performance.

2.Hotspots should not be deployed too close to one another. It’s best to provide a minimum distance of 300 to 500 meters between Hotspots. You typically encounter a more substantial density in cities and a weaker density in rural environments.

3.Avoid using windows that have any special coatings or double-glazed windows if you can. In contemporary homes, many of the windows will have a coating on the outside that is intended to help reflect heat into the home. This coating can be found on the exterior of the window. Nevertheless, these kinds of windows also increase the window’s capacity to obstruct Hotspot signals.

4.When asserting a new location, don’t forget to update your miner’s location. You don’t need to change your location in the Helium app if you move your Helium miner inside your house or to your backyard. However, it is advised that you update the location in your Helium app if you move your miner more than 500 meters. You will need to claim a new location in this situation. There is a charge for this action, which is equal to 1,000,000 data credits, or roughly $10.

As an IoT engineer, I’ve been asked a lot over the years if I should invest in the Helium hotspot. But my answer remains the same – it’s very location dependent. If you follow the methods provided above and place your mining rigs wisely, you will find that Helium is still a great application, bringing you considerable rewards. Of course, there’s a lot you can do beyond that.

If you have optimized the position of placing miners, the income is still low. You can consider choosing a miner with a higher antenna configuration.
