The smart gateway is an intelligent embedded network device that can mine device data and access it to the cloud platform. It can collect data from end devices via BLE, Zigbee, Z-Wave, LoRaWAN, etc., meanwhile, deliver massive amounts of data in long distance via wired Ethernet or wireless LET 4G or WiFi, and finally access to cloud platforms.

A smart gateway is the home automation hub which can link the whole house smart home devices to carry out the duties of information gathering, input, output, and centralized control. The smart gateway can also connect the home network and external network to ensure the communication and remote control of the internal and external networks.
The smart gateways, equipped with high-performance CPU and embedded operating system, have physical interfaces including RS- 485/232 serial ports, RJ45, WIFI, LTE 4G modules to connect with various intelligent instruments, PLC equipment, touch screens, SCADA/DCS system, etc., to completes data reading and local storage, and can also be integrated with third-party (SCADA, MES) system platforms through protocols such as HTTP and MQTT. Smart gateways with robust processing and storage capabilities can handle and analyze data produced by edge devices, and filter and compress data that has to be communicated to the cloud, minimizing the quantity and latency of data delivered by the cloud. To lessen reliance on cloud platforms, edge computing gateways can also offer local decision-making and control capabilities.
The smart gateway with LoRa chip and perform LoRaWAN protocol is called LoRaWAN gateway. The LoRaWAN Gateway can gather sensor data via LoRaWAN and send it to the network server. The network server then decodes the received data to identify the data's source and transmits the data to the appropriate application server.
